Your cones (cells in retina) detect only RED, GREEN, and BLUE.

That is, those cones are sensitive to those three wavelengths.

That's the bad news. However, since our eyes and brains are so complex (advanced),

we can recognize 16,777,216 individual colours.

Mathematically, that's 256 x 256 x 256 = 16,777,216 !
